Baseball World Cup

The World Cup is the main tournament organized by IBAF. It opened in 1938 as the Amateur World Series

According to the IBAF archives, the first ever baseball World Cup was held in England in 1938 and was made up of just two teams: England and the United States of America.  This international event was originally dubbed the "John Moores Trophy". 
of the International Federation, wanted the Amateur World Series to be played every year. 

In 1939, the event featured 3 teams (Cuba, Nicaragua and the United States), with Cuba winning.  Team Nicaragua featured the first ever tournament hero: pitcher Chino Melendez. 

In 1940, 7 teams participated (Cuba won, USA and Nicaragua 2nd).  

In 1941 the Amateur World Series became a 9 team tournament (Venezuela won, Cuba 2nd, for the first time the 1939 World Cup (picture from the book "Baseball para siempre" by Carlos J. Garcia" /> not participate).

In 1942 5 teams played and in 1943 the number went down to 4 (in both cases Cuba won). The Amateur World Series was played annually until 1948.

In 1944 Venezuela hosted the tournament and became the third nation to claim the trophy. The same happened to Colombia, which hosted a 9 team Series in 1947 and celebrated the victory.

The 1948 tournament was played by 11 teams in Nicaragua and won by the Dominican Republic.

The Amateur World Series was not played in 1949, but took place every year from 1950 to 1953, with the 1952 event played by a record 13 teams.

Puerto Rico proved to be the only alternative to Cuba, and the Boricua was crowned champion in 1951.

The 1951 Amateur World Series was the 9th Amateur World Series and was unusual in several ways. First off, it was the only Amateur World Series ever held in Mexico, taking place in Mexico City. Secondly, it was the last time the Cuba national baseball team participated in and did not win an Amateur World Series or Baseball World Cup for 56 years, until the 2007 Baseball World Cup. The Series was played from November 1 through November 19, 1951.

Cuba had certainly fared well in the preliminary round, going 9-1 with a one-run loss to Puerto Rico. Venezuela also was 9-1, followed by Puerto Rico (7-3) and the Dominican Republic (7-3). Failing to advance to round two were Nicaragua (6-4), Costa Rica (5-5), Panama (5-5), Colombia (4-6), Mexico (2-8), Guatemala (1-9) and El Salvador (0-10).

In the final round, Puerto Rico went 3-0 to win the Gold Medal. Venezuela claimed the Silver with a 2-1 mark, while Cuba was a disappointing 1-2; both losses were by 7-6 scores. The Dominican Republic was 0-3 in the medal round.

Bert Bradford of Nicaragua led the tourney with a .481 aveerage and 25 hits, while the Dominicans had the top home run threat, Walter James, with 3. Puerto Rico's Sotero Ortiz led in runs (21) and stolen bases (10) while teammate Ramon Maldonado hit 8 doubles, the most. Overall, statistics are very limited from this tournament.

Puerto Rico ha tenido MVP, Cy Young, MVP de serie mundial, guantes de oro, bates de plata., hemos establecidos infinidades de record en las grandes ligas.

Como es posible que me hables de futbol si aqui no tenemos tradicion en ese deporte.

Pero pq no me hablas como se han visto Mexico vs Puerto Rico en otros deportes. La la Copa de Volleyball femenino, esta pequena isla elimino al equipo femenino de Mexico. Lo mismo paso en el masculino, la seleccion nacional boricua elimino a la de Mexico en el clasificatorio al mundial.

Pa no hablamos de Basketball, los boricuas le propinaron su primera derrota en el premundial, mas bien, los tenemos de hijos en todos los torneos internacionales.SIN CONTAR LOS ULTIMOS PANAMERICANOS lo patemos en varias ocasionessss.

En Boxeo uds podran tener 100 campeones, pero sus logro es uno opaco, pq uds no producen mas que en unas categorias, no son capaces de tener campeones en todas las categorias, como Puerto Rico, que con menos de 50 campeones tiene campeones en todas las 16 divisiones.

Uds pueden tener la infraestructura para Mundiales y para Olimpiadas, pero sus desempenos en las disciplinas deportivas es excaso, esto dicho por los mismos periodistas de tu pais, pq con 107 millones de habitantes y 35 mas en E.U., de donde sacan material para que los representen, sus logros olimpicos son menos que pauperrimos.

Puerto Rico tiene 4-6 millones de habitantes y siempre asomamos la cabeza en diferentes disciplinas por encima de uds, que a juzgar por la infraestructura y la cantidad de habitantes, deberian superar a Puerto Rico en todos los deportes., y no es asi. Si tienen tanta infraestructura para organizar dos Mundiales, como es posible que el sueno de Mexico es pasar a los 8vos de finales para el proximo Mundial. Lo que es peor, hace 40 anos tuvieron en suelo azteca las Olimpiadas, ese empuje no fue capaz de que se destaquen, se mantienen siempre en un desempeno mucho menos que modesto.

Si vas a hablar de Tae Kwon Do, mejor orientate, pq trajimos varias medallas de alla, incluyendo una de oro, en una categoria donde una campeona mexicana fue eliminada y fue la boricua la que escucho el himno nacional.

 Mexico tiene cientos de canchas de Futbol que albergan equipos profesionales, con escuelas, con finanzas millonarias y con una infraestructura impactante, pero no son capaces de crear jugadores, por eso es que la Federacion de Futbol de Mexico le hace el acercamiento a jugadores argentinos y brasileros para que integren la seleccion nacional.
