Un asteroide que pasó relativamente cerca de la Tierra, fue fotografiado por científicos de la NASA.

México, DF.- La NASA logró capturar imágenes del asteroide 2007 PA8 que pasó a una distancia relativamente cercana a la Tierra los días 28, 29 y 30 de octubre pasado.

Las fotografías fueron tomadas por un grupo de científicos que trabajan con la antena de 70 metros de la Red de Espacio Profundo de la NASA en Goldstone, California.

El asteroide pasó a 10 millones de kilómetros de la Tierra el 28 de octubre y el 30 se redujo a 9 millones de kilómetros. En las imágenes, la perspectiva es similar a ver el asteroide por encima de su polo norte. Cada una de las fotografías se muestra en la misma escala.

Las imágenes de radar indican que se trata de un asteroide de tipo alargado, de forma irregular, de aproximadamente 1,6 kilómetros de ancho con crestas y aparentes cráteres.

Este martes, el asteroide se encontraba a unos 6,5 millones de kilómetros o 17 veces la distancia que hay entre la Tierra y la Luna. El objeto pasará nuevamente relativamente cerca de nuestro planeta en aproximadamente 200 años.
