Ronaldo attended the police station voluntarily Manchester United footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of rape. Scotland Yard confirmed a man in his 20s has been released pending further inquiries into the allegation. The Portuguese international was questioned about claims a woman was sexually assaulted at a central London hotel on 2 October. Manchester United said it was "not commenting at the moment". Ronaldo, 20, attended the station and was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police's specialist Sapphire team. He was held in custody while being interviewed about allegations made by a woman that she was raped in the penthouse suite of a hotel the day after Manchester United played Fulham. A man in his 30s also kept an appointment at the police station, but has not been arrested. BBC crime correspondent Neil Bennett said normal procedure was for the police to interview the alleged victim and alleged perpetrator and send a file to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether anyone should be charged.

El jugador, de 20 años, acudió por propia voluntad a una comisaria de policía en el centro de Londres, donde ayer por la tarde fue interrogado por los detectives encargados del caso, englobados en la \'Operación Zafiro\', un departamento de Scotland Yard encargado de investigar los crímenes sexuales. Informaciones procedentes de Portugal indican que Cristiano se ha declarado inocente de las acusaciones. En estos momentos aún no se sabe si el internacional luso va a ser procesado.

El sensacionalista inglés \'The Sun\' había indicado a comienzos de mes que un conocido jugador de la Premier había sido interrogado inicialmente por la policía en relación con un asalto de carácter sexual contra dos mujeres. Las féminas acusaron al futbolista y a un amigo de éste (de unos 30 años y que acompañó ayer a Cristiano Ronaldo a la comisaría) de haber abusado sexualmente de ellas el pasado 2 de octubre en las habitaciones del hotel londinense Sanderson, durante el fin de semana en el que el United jugó contra el Fulham con victoria de los visitantes (2-3).
