Well-respected by the Democrat Party and liberals, Byrd is often given a "pass" on his earlier affiliation with a white supremacist group. Senator Byrd served as an active member of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) attaining the offices of Kleagle (recruiter) and Exalted Cyclops.
Byrd joined the KKK when he was 24 in 1942. His local chapter unanimously elected him the top officer of their unit.

The Democrat from Arlington was charged with making sexual remarks to four women in Lowell and trying to inappropriately touch one of them back in 2008. Prosecutors say Marzilli initially gave police a false name and tried to run away before being caught.
Prosecutors asked for a guilty finding, a year in jail and four years of probation.
After his arrest, Marzilli was treated at a psychiatric hospital for bipolar disorder.
It's unclear if Marzilli will receive a pension.
