The information's hiding in plain sight but it’s still a nifty catch by the Standard’s Daniel Halper. You know why? Because the idea that Jon Corzine is still raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for The One is so insane and implausible, virtually no one would have thought to check. Of coursethat's not happening. Of course.
And yet.
He's in the $500,000+ club for the first quarter of this year, the most elite group there is among O's cash cows. You know what else happened during that quarter? News broke that more than a billion dollars in MF Global client funds had apparently been “vaporized” in the firm’s collapse, with investigators clueless as to where the money might have gone. As recently as last month, new evidence emerged pointing to Corzine’s direct involvement in using clients’ cash to cover the firm’s debts. And yet, presumably, he was squeezing his rich friends for dough for Obama the whole time. Ace asks a good question: “Why is a man under investigation by a government agency permitted to raise money for the man who controls that agency?” Wouldn’t be the first time Corzine’s used his political leverageto personal advantage.
If you missed it a few days ago, read Ed’s post on Patrick Kennedy claiming that the White House rewards its rich donors with certain quid pro quos. Can’t wait to see what Jon Corzine gets in return for his extreme diligence on behalf of the “Not a Republican” reelection effort. Exit question: Does Team O understand that transparency is supposed to act as a deterrent to impropriety or the appearance of impropriety? They love to pat themselves on the back for voluntarily disclosing the names of their bundlers, but the point of disclosure is that it dissuades you, at least in theory, from dealing with cretins lest you be scrutinized for it. Where’s the dissuasion, guys?

Las mareas y el nivel del mar descendieron ante la orden del gran y poderoso Obama.
Cuando Obama ganó la presidencia de EEUU en el 2008 hizo la extravagante afirmación que las generaciones futuras recordarían que su presidencia “marcaría el momento cuando la subida del nivel del mar comenzaría a hacerse más lenta y nuestro planeta a recuperarse.” Y como para 2011 los niveles han descendido Obama debería declarar al mundo “Misión cumplida! Hice bajar al nivel del mar.”
El éxito de Obama en hacer baja el nivel del mar no pasó desapercibido. El sitio web escéptico Real Science hizo el 3 de junio pasado una nota sarcástica sobre “la cura del clima realizada por Obama”, y su logro sobre el nivel del mar. “Desde que Obama llegó a la presidencia ningún huracán ha golpeado territorio de los ÇEEUU, las temperaturas y el nivel del mar han bajado, y tenemos niveles récord de nieve,” hizo notar Real Science. “Los reservorios de agua se están llenado –y todo el daño que el Presidente Bush le hizo al clima ha sido reparado. Obama debería declarar “Misión Cumplida!” y tomar crédito por lo hecho”, termina diciendo Real Science.
Sin embargo, los poderes sobrenaturales de Obama no han podido evitar que este año haya habido un record de tornados devastadores en Estados donde se ha hecho común ocurrencias de más de 100 tornados en un solo día.

The President certainly enjoys the perks of his pposition in the White House. From extravagant vacations to approximately 100 rounds of golf, it has been a pretty enjoyable tenure for Mr. Obama. He has been able to meet celebrities, travel the world and play his favorite games.
While our nation’s problems are not his primary concern, the President sure acts interested when giving speeches in battleground states. Most of these speeches are political and not official business, but the President continues to charge the travel expenses to the American people.
The President’s plane, Air Force One, costs an astounding $179,750 per hour to operate, according to the Pentagon. The plane, along with security, lodging, meals and ground transportation are some of the many expenses involved in any presidential trip. With a huge budget deficit and tremendous economic problems, taxpayer funds should not be wasted on presidential fundraising and campaign junkets.
Since the beginning of his re-election campaign in April of 2011, the President has held 124 fundraisers, more than double the number held by George W. Bush during his entire 2004 re-election campaign. Quite often, the President will combine the political trips with some sort of “official” business so the taxpayers will have to pay the costs.
Earlier in the week, President Obama visited with college students, took pictures at a bar with a shocked young woman and appeared on a late night talk show. Obviously, it was all great fun, quite a contrast to the anxiety most Americans feel dealing with this awful Obama economy.
The latest political excursion was not official business, but more campaigning, which is the activity that President Obama enjoys the most. He hates governing and leading and prefers speaking to adoring audiences, shaking hands and kissing babies.
With polls tight and the economy in the doldrums, Obama will be on the campaign trail non-stop through November. The costs for all of these political activities should not be billed to the taxpayers of this country.
In fact, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) believes that the President’s re-election campaign should pay for his recent political trip. He demanded that the President “reimburse the Treasury” for the costs of the questionable visit to the three battleground states of Iowa, North Carolina and Colorado.
Boehner is not the only person who has noticed this obvious taxpayer abuse. This week, the Republican National Committee (RNC) filed an official complaint with the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
In his latest swing, the President was supposedly focusing on the issue of student loans, which gave him an excuse to visit college campuses in three crucial states that the President needs to win in the fall election. This taxpayer abuse is nothing new. Just recently, the President traveled to Florida and gave an “official speech” after a day of campaigning, thus charging it to the taxpayers.
According to Boehner, “For the president to make a campaign issue out of this (student loans) and then to travel to three battleground states and go to three large college campuses on taxpayers’ money to try to make this a political issue is pathetic.”
The real problem is the horrible economy which is preventing college students from landing a job after they graduate. If graduates find work and do not have to live with their parents, they are more likely to reduce or fully retire their student loans.
The best way for President Obama to solve the student loan crisis is to change his disastrous fiscal policies so our economy can rebound. Unfortunately, he is committed to his big government agenda and to campaigning on the taxpayer’s dime, which are more reasons why Americans need to make a change on November 6, 2012.
Karl Rove, George W. Bush’s top political adviser for over a decade and the brains behind an outside group that hopes to raise and spend $300 million opposing President Obama’s re-election, released his first analysis of the 2012 electoral map this week, picking Obama as the early favorite.
His electoral map, reproduced below, pegs the president as the solid favorite in 18 states totaling 220 electoral votes, and as the slight favorite in another five states (New Hampshire, Nevada, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania) totaling 64 votes; the combined 284 electoral votes would be well over the 270 needed to win a second term.
While some of Rove’s choices — especially listing South Carolina, a conservative state Obama has almost no chance of winning, as a toss-up — might raise eyebrows, his 2008 map proved quite accurate. And even if this early look is meant to scare wealthy Republican donors into contributing to his American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS groups, the simple fact is that President Obama is in a strong **noallow** six months out from election day.
In 2008, Senator Obama said that adding 4 trillion dollars to debt is irresponsible and "unpatriotic.", OBAMA added $6.5 trillion in less than 3 years!!!

Ultimamente se está hablando mucho de una recesión. No le veo mucho sentido. Una recesión se define como la disminución del producto nacional bruto, es decir, un crecimiento económico negativo, durante dos o más trimestres. Estamos muy lejos de eso. El impetuoso crecimiento de la economía durante los últimos años ha disminuido un poco. Por el momento, eso es todo. En realidad, lo asombroso es que después del 11 de septiembre, la guerra de Irak, Katrina y la explosión en el precio de la gasolina, la economía americana se haya mantenido en tan buena forma, con poca inflación y bajísimos niveles de desempleo. Gran parte del mérito hay que dárselo a las rebajas de impuestos de Bush, tan detestadas por los demócratas.
La constante utilización del lenguaje del resentimiento y la lucha de clases ha logrado confundir a mucha gente. No comprenden, por ejemplo, que las llamadas rebajas de impuestos a los ricos, son rebajas de impuestos a los empresarios, dirigidas a estimular sus inversiones, su crecimiento y, por consiguiente, al aumento del empleo. En realidad, ese es el mayor estímulo posible a la economía. La gente de pocos ingresos sencillamente no paga impuestos en este país.
Actualmente estamos atravesando una crisis en las hipotecas de alto riesgo. No se están pagando muchas de ellas, lo que ha conducido a numerosos embargos hipotecarios. Los bancos se han quedado con miles de millones en deudas irrecuperables. Esto hace bajar el precio de las casas y disminuye la construcción de nuevas viviendas. Las consecuencias reverberan en toda la economía.
Uno se pregunta, ¿cómo es posible que tantos bancos se hayan arriesgado a prestarles a clientes que tenían un pobre historial de crédito? La respuesta es que se arriesgaban porque les hacían pagar una tasa hipotecaria más alta y ajustable. Pero, además, se arriesgaban porque estaban compulsados a hacerlo. La Community Reinvestment Act de 1977, reforzada bajo el gobierno de Clinton, es una ley que obliga a los prestamistas a ofrecer crédito a todo el mercado y no sólo a las personas de altos ingresos y sólido historial de crédito. Lo que impulsó la aprobación de la ley fue que a una elevada proporción de negros se les negaban hipotecas. ¿Cómo era posible? ¿No existiría un siniestro racismo bancario? Son evidentes las buenas intenciones de la ley y su espíritu ''progresista''.

Pero, según un artículo de Carrie Teegardin en The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, un estudio nacional de historiales de crédito descubrió que 52 por ciento de los negros tenían historiales de crédito que los clasificarían como prestatarios de alto riesgo en comparación con sólo 16 por ciento entre los blancos. La actitud de los bancos no tenía nada que ver con el racismo. Era simple prudencia económica. Pero las buenas intenciones del gobierno intervinieron.
Es natural preocuparse, pero es conveniente poner la situación actual en perspectiva. Según William Dunkelberg, profesor de economía de la Universidad de Temple, el 96 por ciento de todas las hipotecas se están pagando a tiempo. 30 por ciento de los dueños de casa americanos no tienen hipotecas. Sólo alrededor del 2 al 3 por ciento de las hipotecas están en embargo. Por otra parte, en las últimas cuatro semanas, las solicitudes para beneficios de desempleo han estado bajando. Es probable que esto cambie debido a la crisis de las hipotecas de alto riesgo, pero por el momento la situación se mantiene bajo control. Para los inmigrantes cubanos, que venimos de una sociedad totalitaria, este país tendrá problemas, pero sigue siendo el más grande y generoso delmundo.
Esa es nuestra discrepancia fundamental con la izquierda americana. Una cosa es criticar determinados aspectos de esta sociedad: su bizantino sistema de impuestos, su absurdo sistema de inmigración, que bloquea el ingreso a EEUU de una próspera clase media venezolana, su costoso sistema de salud o su lamentable sistema educativo, entre otras cosas --y otra es ser antiamericano. En el fondo, ser antiamericano es ser un anticapitalista vergonzante. De ahí aquella vieja tendencia demócrata a buscar un acomodo con la Unión Soviética, aunque ahora se pretenda olvidar esa historia. Para los llamados ''liberales'' americanos, los comunistas tendrán estos o aquellos defectos, pero son anticapitalistas y antiamericanos y, por consiguiente, no pueden ser tan malos. Esa es su gran diferencia con nuestros llamados ``conservadores''.
Los candidatos a la nominación presidencial sólo hablan de ''cambio''. Es un mensaje fácil, popular y totalmente vacío. ¿Cambio? Los cubanos querían cambio bajo la dictadura de Batista y Fidel Castro se lo dio. Prometer cambios en abstracto es demagógico, pero aceptarlo es suicida, es depositar una confianza ilimitada en una persona. Cuidado. Los electores tenemos que pedirles a los candidatos posiciones definidas y concretas en relación a los problemas que nos preocupan. Para mí, el problema fundamental de nuestra época es el terrorismo. No nos han vuelto a atacar desde el 11 de septiembre. ¿Será que Al Qaida ha desaparecido o será que las medidas que ha tomado el gobierno de Bush han sido efectivas? Recordemos que esas medidas --como interceptar llamadas telefónicas extrañas a países promotores del terrorismo-- han sido ferozmente criticadas por los demócratas como violadoras de los derechos individuales y como intentos por establecer una dictadura totalitaria en EEUU.
Por mi parte, quiero confirmar las rebajas de impuestos de Bush y, sobre todo, quiero ganar la guerra en Irak, el problema fundamental de nuestro tiempo. Y voy a votar por el candidato que mejor defienda esas posiciones, por el que mejor responda a los retos de nuestra época.

As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney proposed and enacted a health-care reform effort (commonly known as "Romneycare") that included the key element of President Obama has sought on the national level: healthcare for all. The simple principle that everyone -- rich or poor, young or old -- can see a doctor when he or she is sick. And yet, while Romney has vociferously denounced Obamacare's universal healthcare program, and called for its repeal, Romney has not done so for his own universal healthcare program.
Join Alan Grayson, and send Romney a message: "You've denounced Obamacare, why won't you do the same for Romneycare? Either admit that universal healthcare is what Americans want and need, or be consistent: tell everyone who is sick that they can all go to hell!"
