How much money will you give to the fossil fuel industry today? A lot — even if you don't fill up your gas tank. $30 million of our tax dollars go to oil, coal and gas polluters every day in the form of subsidies, tax breaks and loopholes. Two weeks ago, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Keith Ellison introduced the End Polluter Welfare Act to end these wasteful giveaways. Congress' inaction has already cost us over $430 million, and the price goes up another $30 million every day. Tell Congress: It's time to end polluter welfare. Click here to automatically sign the petition. Congress' continued inaction will cost us $110 billion over ten years, in needless giveaways to the most profitable on the planet. Just the five largest oil companies alone made more than $1 trillion in profits, just in the last five years. Some of these companies paid no taxes for some of these years.1 These fossil fuel companies doesn't need the extra help. But for them, the math is very simple: • Oil, gas and coal companies gave $106,993,6862 in direct campaign contributions to Congress, and spent $1,077,417,6933,4 on lobbying over the last 10 years. Polluters get a huge return on their investment. We pay the price. As Republicans and some Democrats continue using growing budget deficits to call for brutal cuts to vital social programs, it is astonishing and shameful that these same politicians are protecting billions upon billions in wasteful polluter welfare to the richest, most dangerous industry on the planet. Tell Congress: End polluter welfare. Click here to automatically sign the petition. The details of these subsidies and giveaways are just unbelievable: We lose $12 billion dollars by allowing fossil fuel polluters to take deductions aimed at helping American manufacturers, by claiming they are manufacturers. We lose $10.6 billion by not setting fair royalties for oil drilling leases in federal waters — currently we give many leases away for free! We lose $6.8 billion by subsidizing oil-spills; allowing companies like BP to deduct billions in clean-up costs from its tax bill after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill that did catastrophic damage to the Gulf of Mexico.5 Those are just a few of the $110 billion worth of giveaways that the End Polluter Welfare Act would end. And unlike other tax breaks which expire after a set time period, the fossil fuel industry has rigged the system so that many of their giveaways will continue indefinitely if Congress fails to act. |

Ricardo --
Three years ago today, President Obama made history when he nominated Justice Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court.
This was the first time I could point to a Supreme Court justice nominee and see someone who looked like me.
Justice Sotomayor has become a role model -- for me, for my children, and for Latinos across the country. And I'm proud to tell anyone who asks: she's one of the many reasons why I'm a Latina for Obama.
The campaign has put together a video to honor the anniversary of her nomination.
Check it out -- then share why you're a Latino for Obama, too.
Justice Sotomayor rose from the housing projects of the Bronx to take a seat in the highest court in the United States.
By nominating her to the Supreme Court, President Obama demonstrated his commitment to diversifying the federal judiciary in terms of race, gender, and life experiences -- under President Obama, more women, African Americans, and Hispanics have been confirmed as judges than under Presidents Bush and Clinton.
President Obama is ready to fight for our community, and make sure our children can grow up to be the next Supreme Court justices if they want to be, regardless of their background.
Join me in honoring the anniversary of Justice Sotomayor's nomination. Watch this video, and share your story on why you're a Latino for Obama:

Breaking from **noallow**
Ireland's Independent reports that Edward Klein, author of the unauthorized biography The Amateur, says the first lady makes sure her husband is monitored daily in his dealings with the opposite **noallow** so he doesn't follow in the footsteps of previous Democrat presidents and stray.
Here's the latest from the Independent:
After interviews with 200 of the Obamas' friends and relatives, Klein reports tales of Mrs. Obama's jealous rages, surprise visits intended to catch her husband out, and "watch" lists of women to be wary of.
The book claims her "obsessive" behavior is the talk of the White House, with a source quoted as saying: "Michelle is very jealous, I would say unusually so.
"Most people after years of marriage have trust and don't follow their husbands around and check on them.
"Michelle doesn't seem to trust Barack at all. She insists on knowing his every movement and drops in on him at all kinds of odd times.
"Michelle makes it clear to her inner circle that she wants women around Barack watched and wants info about who he has an eye for and gets touchy with."
And Klein's Amateur claims that Oprah Winfrey has been all but banned from Michelle Obama's White House.
Find out why Ed Klein's The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House, has risen to #1 in the New York Times best-seller list its first week in publication!

I've been in President Obama's shoes before -- less than six months to go before an election to let you finish what you started. It was tough enough back then, but this election is going to be tougher.
We're facing a tidal wave of anonymous, unlimited spending. The other side has pledged to throw more than 1 billion dollars into tearing down our president.
It's unprecedented.
Fortunately, so is the grassroots organization you're building.
If our opponent succeeds, so much of what we've fought so hard for will be rolled back. Health care reform -- which many presidents, including me, tried to pass and couldn't -- will be gone. Same goes for the opportunity for millions more Americans to afford to go to college, and a growing economy that works for middle-class families.
Our opponent is actually advertising a more extreme version of the policies that got us in trouble in the first place: policies that will leave us with more debt, weaker regulations on risky investments, and fewer jobs.
All of that's at stake between now and November, but here's why I'm feeling good about our chances: I know people like you have the President's back.
And I can't wait to meet you. I hope you'll give it a shot:

Thanks, and good luck,
Bill Clinton

Team Obama panics, and it’s only May
By Joseph Curl
-
The Washington Times
May 13, 2012
It’s mushroom cloud after mushroom cloud for President Obama.
We’ll never see the internal polls, but the externals are awful: Down 8 percent to challenger Mitt Romney in the latest poll, with fewer than 180 days; disillusioned college kids, independents and the white working-class fleeing in droves. Even the barber-shops boys are mocking their Man. Makes sense that in Chicagoland, Obama Central, the internals they’re seeing are even worse.
Which explains this past week. Joe “Blunderbuss” Biden on May 6 blurts out that he’s totally cool with gays marrying. Mushroom cloud. Release the hounds: The vice president is at odds with the president. Monday, the White House slow-plays it (with spokesman Jay “Talking Points” Carney finally fully filling his role as Chief Buffoon). Tuesday, a fierce press corps demanding answers (ABC’s Jake Tapper gets his Underoos all in a wad.) Chief Buffoon repeating over and over, no change — until there’s a change. Oh, and North Carolina just happens to be busy voting down gay marriage.
Wednesday, the president suddenly announces a sit-down (with a friendly reporter, of course), and, oh boy, he’s gotta answer the gay marriage question now! (Or Jake will really come at him.) The president does! He’s for it! (But let the states decide — bold new territory, except former Vice President *beep* Cheney said the same thing three years ago.) The Associated Press says president has set a “world precedent.” And Thursday, off to Hollywood to party at George Clooney’s house (tears of joy wept for the smartest president ever). At the weekend, Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden celebrate with a round of golf.
The whole thing was (say it with me) — a setup. Send Joe out — he’s a goof, he might misspeak, who knows? — and then play it for all its worth. Work it for the week — the press will go along. Jobs? The economy? Please. We’ve got to get to the bottom of this gay marriage thing!

part 2
But even that bodes ill: The big brains on the yellow couches in the Oval Office are busy coming up with ways to distract from the economy by pandering to the most liberal people in America. They must’ve concluded they don’t have much else. Can they do it every week, for the next six months? Panic. Desperation.
By the way, why is it that when a Republican changes his mind, based on life experience, learned wisdom, he’s a “flip-flopper,” but when a Democrat changes his mind — opposes gay marriage, as Mr. Obama did, then takes no stance (politics), then suddenly supports it — he has “evolved”? You can look it up: the president has completely flip-flopped; still, it’s an “evolution,” according to the MSM.
Which brings us back to Wednesday, when ABC led the evening newscast with — no, not Mr. Obama’s flip-flop, but a report that Mr. Romney was mean to a kid 48 years ago when he was at boarding school. Seems the kid looked different — long blond hair — and Mitt and the boys dropped him, sheared the locks. Sure, a prank — or was Mr. Romney a homophobe, persecuting what The Washington Post said was a “presumed” gay student?
Now, Team Obama is known for sifting through the sordid pasts of every candidate it has faced: In fact, it’s the only way he won two races in Illinois, one for the Statehouse, one for U.S. senator. But here, in May, via The Washington Post, are they really going through the high school days of their coming opponent? Mr. Obama was fond of blowing a doob in college, but that’s not an issue. Mitt being mean to another boy nearly five decades ago? Smacks of desperation.
And it’s only May. Mr. Obama is already behind — well behind, according to the most accurate pollster from 2008 — and panicking. Worse, the enthusiasm of the base is dwindling. Kicking off his 2012 campaign, Mr. Obama played to empty seats in Ohio. What was a revolutionary movement four years ago is now just another callow political campaign, with the candidate willing to say whatever it takes to win supporters. Worse, the kids who supported him last time are bored.
The gay marriage move will, eventually, prove to be a major miscalculation. Trying to shore up the liberal and college vote — pushing the college-loan thing apparently was not enough — Mr. Obama just bolstered his opponent among Christians: Even as a Mormon, he might line up better with Christians who oppose gay marriage. There goes North Carolina, and maybe Virginia, too. Sure, Hollywood is more jazzed, but it will turn out not to be worth it: He just lost more votes than he gained.
However it plays out, the panic and desperation of Team Obama is palpable. And for the incumbent president to be forced to pander so cravenly to his base less than six months from Election Day: They definitely know something we don’t yet know — and it isn’t good.
