On Billboard's Social 50 chart this week, Shakira jumps to No. 1 for the first time, following the birth of her son Milan on Jan. 22. She displaces Justin Bieber, who falls to the No. 2 spot.
The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist pageviews, song plays and reactions.
The sudden ascension on the tally is due to an outpouring of support from online fans, congratulating the Colombian pop star on her new arrival. In the 114 weeks Shakira has resided on the Social 50 chart, this is her first week in the No. 1 position. Her previous peak at No. 2 occurred in February 2012, after she performed at the NRJ Music Awards in France.
As reported last week, Shakira’s child's birth was celebrated by fans online via an online baby shower campaign through UNICEF, where users logged in via Facebook or Twitter to visit Shakira and her boyfriend, FC Barcelona star Pique’s, virtual living room.
This week, the campaign continued to amplify her social imprint. Her overall fan base increased drastically to the tune of over 540,000 new followers on Facebook and Twitter (up 33% from previous weeks), led by a 22% jump in conversation across multiple online platforms.

Pop star's new baby pushes her to #1...
Shakira has claimed the top spot in the Billboard Social 50. Billboard reports that chatter and congratulations on social media following the birth of her son Milan pushed the Latin pop star to the top of the chart for the first time. Justin Bieber slipped a spot to #2 to make way for her.
Elsewhere on the chart, Rihanna held steady at #3 while Beyonce rose five places to #4 on the strength of her lip synching controversy and her upcoming Super Bowl performance. Last week's runner-up One Direction fell three places to #5 followed by Britney Spears, who was down a spot to #6. Taylor Swift fell three places to #7 and Bruno Mars was down a notch to #8. Eminem jumped three places to #9 and Alicia Keys' new single "B.N.M. Part 2" pushed her nine spots to #10.
