"This is not a matter of guilt by association. If you’re a member of an organized crime family — even if you’ve never killed anybody — you’re still part of an organization that routinely commits murder and you share in the guilt."

The Daley Machine Goes National

BARACK H. OBAMA IS A PRODUCT OF THE CORRUPT CHICAGO POLITICAL MACHINE

At the moment it seems clear that Barack Obama has had no direct involvement in the growing scandal involving Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, but nothing can remove the stench of Chicago politics that engulfs Obama thanks to his appointments of the Chicago Three.

Let it be said at the outset — the only way Barack Obama can separate himself from any hint of the sordid corruption that is the earmark of Chicago’s Daley machine is to send the Chicago Three back to the political sewer from which they have emerged.

Obama has chosen three long-time associates, David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel and Valerie Jarrett, to fill key posts in his administration. All are products of the scandal-ridden Richard Daley machine that dominates the city’s politics, and by virtue of that fact alone they are unfit to serve in top White House posts.

This is not a matter of guilt by association. If you’re a member of an organized crime family — even if you’ve never killed anybody — you’re still part of an organization that routinely commits murder and you share in the guilt.

The same thing is true if you’re closely associated with a notoriously corrupt political machine such as Chicago’s Daley machine — you are more than merely tainted by the corruption, you share in it.

Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s choice to be White House chief of staff, signed on with Mayor Daley as long ago as 1987, when Daley was running for mayor.

According to news accounts, Emanuel served as a fundraiser for Daley, aggressively convincing donors to give money to Daley’s campaign. After Emanuel served in the Clinton White House, Daley welcomed him back to Chicago with open arms, endorsing him in 2002 to fill the congressional seat left vacant when Rod Blagojevich ran for governor.

Daley pulled out all stops to help Emanuel win. And he wound up in the U.S. Congress thanks to the mayor.

He is a product of the corrupt Daley regime and as such is clearly unfit to be White House chief of staff.

Before he went to work for Obama, David Axelrod spent years working for the Daley Machine.

In 2005, he proved his loyalty to the machine when U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald was investigating corruption in Illinois. Axelrod attacked him for daring to criminalize the sleazy *** of politics in Chicago.

In an op-ed piece Axelrod insisted that trading political favors — including jobs, known as “pay for play” these days — is an essential part of the process that makes government work.

Axelrod has been the liaison between the Daley Machine and Barack Obama. Giving him a key White House post cannot cleanse him of his association with the endemic corruption of the Daley Machine, which he has long and faithfully served. Send him back to their welcoming arms.

There is no question of Valerie Jarrett’s association with the Daley Machine. She once served as Richard Daley’s chief of staff and has been described as a key cog in the Daley Machine. That fact alone disqualifies her from serving in the post of advisor to the president of the United States. Moreover, she has been under a cloud of suspicion for her roles in a couple of sordid scandals involving public housing in Chicago.

Said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton: “Like Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett is a product of the corrupt Chicago political machine. And it is no stretch to say that she was a slumlord.

“We have real concerns about Jarrett’s ethics. Washington already has plenty of corruption. We don’t need to import more of it from Chicago,” Fitton added.

According to Robert Grant, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Chicago office: “If it [Illinois] isn’t the most corrupt state in the United States, it’s certainly one hell of a competitor.”

America can do without any hint of the Illinois corruption the Chicago Three represent.

BIRDS OF THE SAME FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER.  DESPUES DE TODO, OBAMA ES PRODUCTO DE LA MISMA CULTURA DE CORRUPCION DE CHICAGO QUE HIZO POSIBLE EL ESCANDALO SIN PRECEDENTES DE BLAGO, ALLI TODOS COMO EN EL MISMO PLATO.

Obama 'advisor' in scandal unidentified

WASHINGTON TIMES 12/14/2008

Five days after Illinois Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich was arrested in a "pay-for-play" scandal, President-elect Barack Obama's transition team has yet to reveal the name of the "president-elect advisor" mentioned six times in a federal criminal complaint in the case or what the adviser's conversations with the governor were about.

Chicago power player and Mr. Obama's newly named chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, continued Saturday to decline to comment, even as reports emerged that the Illinois congressman had conversations with Mr. Blagojevich's staff both before and after the Nov. 4 presidential election about Mr. Obama's preferred candidates for his now-vacated Senate seat.

Mr. Emanuel, a longtime friend and supporter of both Mr. Obama and Mr. Blagojevich, was not identified in a criminal complaint filed earlier this week by federal authorities in Chicago as having done anything wrong.

Mr. Blagojevich was caught on tape saying he wanted the "president-elect advisor" to know what he sought in exchange for appointing Valerie Jarrett, a Chicago lawyer, businesswoman and civic leader who has since been named as a senior adviser in the incoming Obama administration.

Mr. Emanuel had conversations prior to and after the Nov. 4 elections with elected officials and others in Illinois, including the governor's office, concerning Mr. Obama's preferred candidates for the Senate seat, according to a Chicago Tribune report. The Washington Times has learned that the preferred list included Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Illinois Democrat; Tammy Duckworth, director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs; Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan; and Ms. Jarrett.

Mr. Blagojevich, a two-term Democrat, and his chief of staff, John Harris, were arrested Tuesday on charges of conspiracy and soliciting bribes, in a federal criminal case centering on accusations that the two conspired to sell the Senate seat vacated by Mr. Obama. Mr. Harris resigned on Friday, although Mr. Blagojevich has refused calls to do the same.

Republicans have called on Mr. Obama to detail his staff's contacts with Mr. Blagojevich and to leave U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald, who serves at the pleasure of the president, in place to oversee the investigation.

On Thursday, Mr. Obama told reporters that nobody in his transition office tried to make a deal with the Illinois governor about filling the vacant Senate seat, adding that he had not been contacted by federal authorities during their investigation of the governor.

Mr. Obama said his office was compiling and would present any contacts his staff had with the governor, but said he is "certain" they didn't cross any lines, although it was unclear when any such report would be made public.

"Our office had no involvement in any deal-making around my Senate seat. That I'm absolutely certain of. That would be a violation of everything this campaign is about," Mr. Obama said.

On Saturday, the Associated Press reported that Mr. Blagojevich left a downtown building that houses the offices of a high-profile defense lawyer, Ed Genson, whose clients have included newspaper magnate Conrad Black and R&B singer R. Kelly.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the governor will decide early next week if he should resign, although he continued to defy calls for his resignation.

Ms. Madigan asked the state Supreme Court in an emergency request last week to have him removed from office as being "unfit to serve." On Friday, he signed a bill into law and attended a meeting with several clergymen. She argued in court papers that "the pervasive nature and severity" of a federal corruption case against Mr. Blagojevich had rendered him "incapable of legitimately exercising his ability as governor."

Illinois legislators are expected to meet in Springfield on Monday to consider impeachment proceedings, as well as a bill that would strip the governor of his power to name a successor to Mr. Obama.

Meanwhile, Attorney General-designate Eric H. Holder Jr. may have to recuse himself if confirmed from overseeing the federal corruption investigation that has targeted the Illinois governor. Legal experts noted that Mr. Holder, a former deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration, was co-chairman of Mr. Obama's presidential campaign at a time when the probe focused on a businessman who had been among the biggest fundraisers for Mr. Obama and Mr. Blagojevich.

The U.S. Attorneys' Manual requires Justice Department lawyers to withdraw from matters in which a conflict of interest exists or where there is an appearance of a conflict of interest or loss of impartiality. The manual outlines recusal for what it describes as "a personal interest or professional relationship with parties involved in the matter."

Obama transition officials said on Saturday that Mr. Holder will follow department recusal guidelines if confirmed.

Obama’s Helpful Hand in Blago-Rezko ‘Pay-to-Play’ Scheme
Pajamas Media ^ | 12-16-08 | Abraham H. Miller

Against the backdrop of Chicago’s Wacker Drive, Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren stood and analyzed Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s most recent “pay-to-play” scheme, the auctioning of President-elect Barack Obama’s seat in the U.S. Senate.

Absent from the analysis of Governor Blagojevich’s role as auctioneer was the governor’s involvement in an earlier scandal. That earlier story went generally untouched by the media — outside of Chicago — because it had a direct bearing on the character of then-presidential candidate and media darling Barack Obama.

Now, numerous journalists have been captured before the camera’s lens wondering why U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald “prematurely” had Blago arrested and didn’t build a stronger case.

None of them is suggesting the obvious — that perhaps Fitzgerald had to compel a media frenzy to avoid being transferred or even fired by the new administration for his involvement in the earlier case that has ties to the president-elect. (After all, it is only the most partisan Democrats that believe only Alberto Gonzales fires non-compliant U.S. attorneys.)

To understand Fitzgerald’s potential problem with the Obama administration, you need to go back to the original “pay-for-play” scheme that caused Blago and wife, Patty, to come under the eye of the federal prosecutor. You also need to confront Barack Obama’s role in that scheme.

If you don’t remember Antonin (Tony) Rezko, here’s the Cliff Notes version: If you wanted to build or expand a medical facility in Illinois, you had to cut a deal with Tony. He was the guy with contacts on the state board whose approval you needed. To put it bluntly, he was the guy you paid off to pay off the other guys so you could get the required permits.

Originally, the board was made up of fifteen members. Now, in Chicago, where bribery has become a cultural art form, bribing half of fifteen means you need eight guys in your pocket. That’s a heavy overhead cost. What if you could reduce your overhead by about forty percent? Just think how much more money you could make.

Enter Barack Obama, state senator and chairman of the senate’s Health and Human Services Committee. Obama successfully introduced legislation to cut the size of the board down to nine members.

Now you only have to bribe five members.
